Testimonials

" The Berkeley Group made a major impact on the strategic planning process for the Buy Local Berkeley Campaign. Their focus groups, surveys and research allowed our planning team to see beyond its own constituencies to audiences with whom we do not have a direct connection. Moreover, the professionalism, clarity and thoroughness of their work topped other student volunteer efforts with which I have been involved. Their enthusiasm and energy were infectious for the leadership of Buy Local Berkeley. We now provide their slide presentation and final report as a benefit of membership in the Buy Local Berkeley Campaign. "

Spring 2008, Campus Marketing Campaign

" Berkeley World Music (BWM) will not only implement TBG’s recommendations, but considers TBG’s final report ‘Berkeley World Music Strategic Planning Project?to be the definitive document to charter BWM’s direction in gaining organizational stability. The festival volunteers I had invited to the presentation were impressed by the quality of the presentation and the direction that the consultants offered. On behalf of BWM, I thank and am grateful to TBG for their successful work and their contribution towards the posterity of our community arts organization. "

Spring 2008, Strategic Planning: Creation of a Non-Profit Project

" TBG’s recommendations were so well-thought out and extremely helpful to us. For the Family Violence Prevention Fund, TBG’s final presentation was extremely motivational in getting our staff focused and excited about solving some of our problems. We were extremely impressed by the caliber of work the project team produced. We work with many consultants and noticed immediately that TBG really listened to our concerns and was able to understand nuances in our organization and provide appropriate questions and recommendations. Project Selection

The client and the project are the heart and soul of The Berkeley Group. Because of the vitality of both, project selection is an integral part of the consulting process. TBG meets its potential clients largely through referrals from past clients, invocations, and requests. Project selection takes place twice a year, from mid-July to early August and from mid-December to early January.

Early communications include setting expectations and measures of accountability between clients and TBG. TBG understands that reliable giving of information and open communication are crucial ingredients in the client-consultant interaction. Although the specifics of the project proposal are determined later in the process, the general scope of the final deliverable is formally established during the initial interview. A one-page project proposal will be drafted and agreed upon by both TBG and the prospective client. After primary introduction, the executive board of TBG reviews the proposals and confirms the final number of clients the group will serve for the duration of the project period.

TBG selects projects based on the following criteria:

Active Vision for the Community
TBG selects clients that seek to benefit and serve the greater Bay Area community.
TBG Capabilities
TBG seeks projects that are aligned with our resources, capabilities, and skill sets.
Challenging Proposal
TBG looks for projects that will expand the knowledge of our consultants and clients.
Time Availability
TBG requires consistent communication between the project team and client contact.
Accessibility
TBG requires that the organization is in the Bay Area and is easily accessible to the project team.
Ability to Implement
TBG's client contact must have the ability to make critical business decisions regarding the implementation of our recommendation.

Project Timeline

After the final selection of the client base, individual clients are introduced to their respective project leaders and project teams. Although the Projects VP will remain present throughout the consulting process and will act as a liaison between the project leader and the client contact, the project leader will be the main contact person between the client and the consulting team.

The project team as a whole will be in continuous communication with the client throughout the project period. TBG emphasizes the importance of communication with the client contact in order to receive updates, feedback, requests, or additional information and/or clarification. The project period culminates with a presentation of a business deliverable of the project team to the client.
